Casey Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating a burglary and the theft of a car from Cranbourne East earlier this month, Victoria Police say.
The incident happened on Saturday, 11 March when burglars broke into a house on Muirfield Close about 7am while the owners were away on holiday.
After leaving the house, the burglars took the victim’s silver HSV GTS Holden sedan which had been parked in the garage.
Two days later, on Monday 13 March, the car was seen at a car-yard in Pakenham at 8pm.
The occupants of the stolen car entered the car-yard and searched through several cars on the lot.
The owner and his son, alerted by an alarm at the premises, attended at the address and saw the stolen vehicle parked in the driveway.
The stolen car took off with the owner chasing it in his own vehicle before they both collided in a nearby court.
The driver of the stolen car, perceived to be of Islander appearance, with a solid build and bald, drove away from the scene.
On Wednesday, 15 March, the stolen car was located completely burnt-out on the Loch-Wonthaggi Road at Almurta.
Investigators have released an image of the stolen car as well as images and CCTV footage of a man in the Pakenham car-yard who they believe can assist with their enquiries and are appealing to anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers.
