Police seek witnesses to Epping non-fatal shooting

Armed Crime Squad detectives are appealing for assistance after a non-fatal shooting outside a reception centre in Epping last month.

Investigators have been told an unknown number of offenders in a stolen red Mazda CX5 drove to the Helm Court venue, before firing multiple shots into the crowd outside the premises about 10.45pm on Thursday, 10 March.

A 33-year-old Docklands man received an upper body gunshot wound and self-presented at a nearby hospital at approximately 11pm. No other people were physically injured.

The offenders fled the scene, driving to W.A. Smith Reserve in Lalor, where the car, displaying fake South Australian registration plates, was burnt.

Detectives believe it was a targeted attack.

Police have today released CCTV and an image of the car they believe may be able to assist with their enquiries.

Investigators believe there were multiple witnesses to the incident who may have filmed the events on their mobile phones and are asking anyone who has any footage to come forward, which can be done anonymously via Crime Stoppers.

Investigators are also urging anyone who was in the vicinity of Cooper Street, Edgar Street or Dalton Road in Epping between 10.30pm and 11pm on Thursday 10 March, and who has dashcam footage, to come forward.

Anyone with information or with dashcam footage of the incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers anonymously on 1800 333 000 or at www.crimestoppersvic.com.auExternal Link.
