Over the weekend Tasmania Police continued to carry out high visibility traffic operations in the Huon Valley, in response to incidents of hooning and dangerous driving on rural roads and highways.
Supporting the current strategy, police targeted known offenders and vehicles used in committing offences.
The results from the weekend included:
- A 19-year-old man from Huonville will face hooning and other traffic offences.
- A 29-year-old man from Claremont was arrested for driving whilst disqualified in an unregistered and uninsured vehicle at Franklin, the vehicle was seized.
- A 40-year-old man from Geeveston was caught travelling 125km/h in a 60 zone at Geeveston. He was arrested and the vehicle seized.
- Police intercepted a 32-year-old man from Huonville who returned a breath analysis reading of 0.092.
- A 39-year-old man from Huonville was also intercepted and returned a breath analysis reading of 0.127
- Police also issued five drivers with $129 fines for causing unnecessary noise and smoke due to engine revving.
- Police issued three passengers with $129 fines for possessing open containers of alcohol.
Senior Sergeant Peter Borish from Kingston said, any offence committed on Tasmanian roads creates obvious risks to drivers, passengers, other road users and the community.
"Police have worked in partnership with the Huon Valley community to address incidents of offending driver behaviour and information provided has identified drivers of interest and vehicles used to commit traffic offences."
"Our message remains clear – those who commit traffic offences on our roads will be targeted and held to account, to ensure the public are safe on our roads."
