Police conducting COVID-19 business compliance checks today were surprised to uncover illegal tobacco being sold.
Just after 10am on Thursday 2 July, police attended the Addison Road business and found an amount of loose tobacco in a plastic bag along with a quantity of filters on the counter. The tobacco was not labelled as per the regulations and was being sold to a customer. Police carried out a search and located 109 cartons each containing 100 cigarettes.
A 24-year-old man from Fulham Gardens was issued a $1620 on the spot fine for selling tobacco without a licence.
The cigarettes were seized by police and notifications made to the Australian Taxation Office and Australian Border Force.
