Police update 1: Drug trafficking charges at Mount Isa

Police have charged a further five people with multiple alleged drug related offences following a series of search warrants executed in Mount Isa and Cloncurry as part of Operation Uniform Truro.

On February 15, a 52-year-old Mount Isa woman was arrested and charged with one count of drug trafficking (methylamphetamine). She has been remanded in custody and is expected to reappear at the Mount Isa Magistrates court on April 3.

On February 28, a 35-year-old Mount Isa woman was arrested and charged with 44 counts of supplying dangerous drugs (methylamphetamine and cannabis), two counts of drug trafficking (methylamphetamine and cannabis), and one count each of attempt to possess a dangerous drug, possess thing used for drug crime, contravening an order to access information stored electronically and obstruct police.

She has been remanded in custody and is expected to reappear at the Mount Isa Magistrates Court on April 19.

On March 1, a 21-year-old Cloncurry woman was arrested and charged with eight counts of supplying a dangerous drug (methylamphetamine), two counts of possessing utensils, and one count each of drug trafficking (methylamphetamine), possessing dangerous drugs (cannabis), and fail to dispose of needle and syringe.

She is expected to appear before the Cloncurry Magistrates Court on April 14.

On March 2, a 40-year-old Cloncurry man was charged with 24 counts of supplying dangerous drugs (methylamphetamine and cannabis), one count of drug trafficking (methylamphetamine), and two counts of receiving property from drug trafficking offences.

He appeared before Mount Isa Magistrates Court on March 7 and is due to appear next on April 13.

On March 8, a 43-year-old Mount Isa man was located and arrested in Deception Bay. He has since been charged with nine counts of supplying dangerous drugs (methylamphetamine), one count of drug trafficking (methylamphetamine) and one count of possess thing used in a crime.

He has been remanded in custody and is expected to reappear at Caboolture Magistrates Court on March 22.

Operation Uniform Truro was established in May 2022 to deconstruct drug syndicates operating in the Mount Isa district. To date, 31 persons have been charged with 465 offences in the Mount Isa district in relation to this operation.

"We are aware that there are people in the community that are anxiously awaiting their visit from police," Officer in Charge of the Mount Isa District Tactical Crime Squad Joel Bryant said.

"If you have involved yourself in the trafficking or supply of dangerous drugs in the Mount Isa District be assured we know who you are. We will remain relentless in our pursuit and apprehension of you for your crimes, and harms caused to our community" he said.

Sergeant Bryant encourages anyone in our community who is suffering from drug dependence to seek support from Queensland Health's Alcohol and Drug Information Service or other support services or networks.
