Police Update 2: Police Incident Charges, Annerley

Police have charged a 26-year-old Acacia Ridge man following an incident in Annerley where a police officer and a man were shot earlier this month.

On January 10, police were called to an address on Tamar Street following reports of a disturbance around 9.13am.

It is alleged upon arrival, two officers, a male Acting Sergeant and a male First Year Constable (FYC), located a 26-year-old man, with no connection to the address, armed with a piece of wood in an agitated state.

It is further alleged an altercation occurred where the man lunged for the male Acting Sergeant's service firearm, which resulted in the Acting Sergeant being shot in the left thigh.

A struggle has then ensued, and the offender has received two gunshot wounds to the abdomen.

Additional police arrived on the scene to provide support and as the man was allegedly still being combative, a taser was deployed in an attempt to subdue the man while other officers worked to restrain him.

The male FYC sustained a bite wound during the incident.

Medical assistance was immediately rendered to all injured parties.

The man and the two officers were transported to the Princess Alexandra Hospital for treatment.

The 26-year-old Acacia Ridge man remains in a stable condition.

Both officers have since been discharged from hospital.

No other police officers or members of the public were injured during the altercation.

Subsequent investigations under Operation X-Ray Snowy are alleged to have detected additional offences from the man's movements prior to arriving at the address.

The man has since been charged with two counts each of attempt to murder, trespass and wilfully assault police officer (assault and wilfully obstruct), one count each of serious assault police officer by biting, enter dwelling and commit, assaults occasioning bodily harm and trespass on a railway.

The matter is expected to appear before Brisbane Magistrates Court today, January 21.

*The above media release corrects the previously reported Senior Constable's rank to Acting Sergeant.
