A man and a woman have died following a fatal crash at Waikerie.
Just after 1pm, Wednesday 18 January, patrols and emergency crews were called to the Sturt Highway, between Range Road and Vasey Road, after a Holden station wagon and a Nissan sedan crashed.
Sadly, the driver and sole occupant of the Nissan, a 75-year-old man from the Riverland and the driver and sole occupant of the Holden, a 78-year-old woman from Waterloo Corner, both died at the scene.
The Sturt Highway is currently between Hardy Road and Old Blanchetown Road. Heavy vehicles are being diverted at Maggea Road (west bound) and Hunter Road, Paisley (east bound). The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation by Major Crash who attended the scene.
Their deaths are the eighth and ninth lives lost on our roads this year as compared to one for this time last year.
