A man has been charged following Forensic Crash Unit investigations into a fatal traffic crash in Douglas in February.
Around 12.40am on Sunday, February 6 a VW Golf travelling outbound on the Ring Road left the roadway and crashed through a fence before coming to a rest in bushland.
A 23-year-old Bushland Beach man, a passenger in the vehicle, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The alleged driver, a 25-year-old Nome man, was transported to Townsville Hospital in a serious condition.
Yesterday, the 25-year-old Nome man was charged with one count each of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death whilst excessively speeding and disobeying the speed limit. He is due to appear in Townsville Magistrates Court on July 26.
