Police have charged a 17-year-old boy in relation to a fatal traffic crash at Kingston yesterday, February 22.
At approximately 10.40am on Anthony Street, it will be alleged a red Ford Focus failed to stop at a stop sign, colliding with a Holden Barina before crashing into a man on a mobility scooter.
A 76-year-old man, who was on the mobility scooter at the time, was declared deceased at the scene.
The occupant of the Holden Barina sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
The 17-year-old alleged driver of the Ford Focus was restrained by members of the public, before police arrived and he was taken into custody.
During a search of the boy and his backpack, police allegedly located cannabis, medication that was not prescribed to him and two cards that police allege were stolen.
A male and female, passengers of the vehicle, left the scene on foot.
The Ford Focus was not reported as stolen.
The 17-year-old Waterford West boy has been charged with seven offences relating to the incident including one count of dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death whilst adversely affected by intoxicating substance and left scene of incident without obtaining help, two counts of unlicenced driving, three counts of possessing dangerous drugs and one count of possessing s4 or s8 medicines.
He has been charged with a further nine unrelated property crime offences including four counts of possessing tainted property and one count each of enter dwelling and commit, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, receiving tainted property, possession of unauthorised and prohibited explosives (ammunition) and possess used drug utensils.
It will be alleged these charges relate to offences committed on February 20, including the theft of number plates at Crestmead and a burglary at Greenbank.
Investigations in relation to further property crime offences in the Logan area remain ongoing.
Police have refused bail and he is expected to appear before Beenleigh Children's Court tomorrow, February 24, where police will oppose bail.
A 16-year-old girl is assisting police with investigations and has not been charged.
Police continue to appeal to anyone with information, including dashcam or CCTV vision, to come forward.
