Police update: Fatal traffic crash charges, Bilyana

Police investigating a fatal traffic crash near Bilyana, south of Tully in August last year have today charged a man.

Forensic Crash Investigators allege around 1pm a sugar cane truck had been travelling south on the Bruce Highway and was stationary, waiting to turn right into a farm access road when a Mazda sedan stopped behind it.

Police will allege a b-double truck travelling south then struck the sedan.

A 59-year-old Kuranda woman was the sole occupant of the sedan and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The drivers of the trucks were not physically injured.

A 59-year-old Victoria Point man, who police allege was driving the b-double, was charged with one count of driving without due care and attention causing death.

He was issued with a Notice to Appear in the Innisfail Magistrates Court on Monday February 13.
