Police update: Fire investigations at Gold Coast

Police have charged a 17-year-old girl following investigations into suspicious fires in Bonogin this week.

Emergency crews responded to multiple fires that occurred in grassland near Waltham Court, Bonogin Road and Brighton Lane between 2.45pm and 4.10pm on Tuesday, October 31.

No one was injured as a result of the fires and they were quickly brought under control by fire fighters.

Initial investigations indicated the fires had been deliberately lit.

Following further investigations, police located and arrested a 17-year-old Bonogin girl today, November 2.

She has been issued a notice to appear on four counts of arson and is expected to appear at Southport Childrens Court on November 8.

Gold Coast District Disaster Co-Ordinator, Acting Chief Superintendent Geoff Sheldon said police take arson very seriously.

"Let this serve as a warning as Queensland begins battling what is sure to be a devastating bushfire season. We will investigate all fires as to their origin and bring those responsible to justice if fires are found to be deliberately lit."
