A man has been charged following a pursuit and crash in Sydney's Inner West at the weekend.
Just after 6.20am on Saturday (5 February 2022), Traffic and Highway Patrol officers attempted to stop a Subaru Outback on Parramatta Road, Leichhardt, after it was seen to disobey a red traffic light at the intersection of Johnson Street.
The Subaru allegedly failed to stop, and a pursuit was initiated before being terminated shortly after due to safety concerns.
A short time later, the Subaru collided with five vehicles on Parramatta Road, near the intersection of Old Canterbury Road.
Police responded and assisted the occupants of the vehicles, who were treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics, with some of the occupants taken to hospital for further treatment.
The Subaru driver, a 35-year-old man, was arrested and taken to St George Hospital, suffering minor injuries and for mandatory blood and urine testing.
Officers from Inner West Police Area Command established a crime scene, which was examined by specialist forensic police, and commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Following inquiries, the 35-year-old man was yesterday (Sunday 6 February 2022) charged with police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously.
The man remains under police guard in hospital and the matter will be mentioned in Newtown Local Court today (Monday 7 February 2022).
Inquiries continue.
