A man has died in hospital after allegedly being punched by another man at Surfers Paradise on December 19.
It will be alleged two men known to each other were walking along Surfers Paradise Boulevard just before 4am (December 19), when one turned and allegedly punched the other.
The 39-year-old man from New South Wales fell to the ground, his head hitting the concrete pavement.
Police rendered first aid to the man before paramedics transported him to hospital with a critical head injury.
A 26-year-old man was taken into custody at the scene at the time.
His initial charge of grievous bodily harm has now been upgraded to unlawful striking causing death.
He is expected to appear in Southport Magistrates Court today.
