An 83-year-old woman has died following a traffic crash in Tugun on March 2.
It will be alleged just before 7pm, a black Mazda hatchback was travelling along Teemangum Street when it struck a pedestrian.
The driver, a 30-year-old Currumbin man, allegedly initially left the scene but was located by police inside his vehicle outside a Currumbin address a short time later.
He was issued with a notice to appear for mid-range drink driving and will appear at Coolangatta Magistrates Court on March 25, and continues to assist police with their investigations.
The pedestrian, an 83-year-old woman visiting from overseas, was transported to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a critical condition, where she passed away last night March 3.
The Forensic Crash Unit is appealing for any witnesses or anyone with relevant dashcam footage or CCTV to come forward.
Police investigations are ongoing.
