An 18-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder following an alleged wounding incident in Kamerunga in Cairns today.
The incident occurred at approximately 10.25am, at a school on Cowley Street.
It will be alleged an 18-year-old man approached an 18-year-old woman who was seated with friends during a school break, and allegedly stabbed her with a knife multiple times before being restrained by staff and other students.
Both the man and woman are students of the school.
The 18-year-old woman was transported to Cairns Hospital, where she remains in a critical condition after undergoing surgery today.
The 18-year-old Caravonica man has been charged with one count of attempted murder (domestic violence) and will appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court tomorrow, May 17.
