Road users are still making bad choices and getting caught as part of Operation Towards Zero, NSW Police say.

Operation Towards Zero sees additional police resources on NSW roads during January targeting speeding, drink/drug driving, seat belts as well as driver distraction and fatigue.

A 33-year-old man was charged twice in one day over alleged vehicle offences after he was arrested at Mittagong and then at Jerrawa 150km away.

About 9.30am yesterday (Monday 8 January 2018), officers from The Hume Traffic & Highway Patrol Command detected and stopped a Victorian-registered black Ford Falcon sedan allegedly travelling at 130km/h in a signposted 110km/h zone on the Hume Highway.

He was arrested and taken to Bowral Police Station and charged with drive unlicensed and speeding and had the warrant executed yesterday at Moss Vale Local Court.

The man was convicted by the court of driving while disqualified from holding a licence and was disqualified by the court for a period of 12 months commencing Monday 8 January 2018.

Police will allege after leaving court, the man walked back to his vehicle on the Hume Highway and drove south.

About 3.20pm, officers from The Hume Traffic & Highway Patrol Command allegedly detected the Ford Falcon driving south on the highway near the Windellama Bridge overpass.

A pursuit was commenced when the driver failed to stop for police. The Ford accelerated and was allegedly detected travelling up to 190km/h in a signposted 110km/h zone.

Road spikes were deployed at Breadalbane which caused the tyres of the Ford to deflate, but the driver allegedly continued driving along the highway at speeds up to 160km/h.

Another set of road spikes were deployed at Oolong, which caused the remaining tyres to deflate and a front wheel to dislodge.

The driver ran from the vehicle after the Ford came to a stop at a rest area at Jerrawa and was arrested.

Further inquiries revealed that the vehicle was now reported as stolen from Victoria on Sunday 7 January 2018.

The 33-year-old man was taken to Goulburn Police Station and charged with police pursuit – not stop (‘Skye’s Law’), exceed speed over 45km/h, drive while disqualified, and take and drive vehicle without consent of owner.
