Campaspe Shire Council is seeking expressions of interest from organisations that are keen to host markets in the Port of Echuca precinct during the 2025-26 financial year.
The annual expressions of interest process determines which markets will take place in the Port of Echuca - defined as the area from the roundabout at the corner of Heygarth and High Streets along to the old Pump House through to the roundabout at Warren Street and the area between the Murray and Campaspe rivers inclusive - for the upcoming year.
Campaspe Shire Mayor, Cr Daniel Mackrell said encouraging locals and visitors to linger in the precinct was a priority for Council, and markets were a great way to do that while also showcasing the region's products, boosting the local economy and creating social gathering points.
The expressions of interest process invites submissions from co-operatives and incorporated associations established within the shire, while applications from outside the municipality may also be considered at Council's discretion.
"With the Port of Echuca precinct having several attractions including the Port of Echuca Discovery Centre, the Visitor Information Centre, Foundry Art Space, Arts Precinct Gardens, Hopwood Gardens, the historic Echuca Wharf and the iconic Murray River paddle steamers, the area is already a drawcard for visitors - but the markets add to the vibrancy of the precinct and help to further enhance the tourism experience for visitors and locals alike," Cr Mackrell said.
"I encourage community organisations to submit their applications to hold markets during the 2025-26 financial year and help drive the already strong Port of Echuca visitation rates."
All markets must support locally made or grown produce and products, second-hand goods, crafts and handmade goods. Applications from commercial market holders will not be considered, and resellers are also not permitted at these markets.
