Port of Hobart Seeks Interest for Refuelling Solution

Tasmanian Government

Expressions of Interest have opened for industry nominations in relation to a refuelling solution for the Port of Hobart.

Premier and Minister for Trade and Major Investment, Jeremy Rockliff, said the EOI was an important step in delivering a new refuelling option for the Port of Hobart, allowing visiting vessels, including the RSV Nuyina, a more agile refuelling option.

"This presents an exciting opportunity to improve refuelling capability within the Port of Hobart, boosting its operational efficiency and in time, leading to increased vessel visitation," the Premier said.

"As part of the 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future, we are seeking to find a solution that allows the icebreaker to refuel in its home port; reinforcing Hobart's status as one of the world's leading Antarctic gateway cities.

"We've already committed to providing priority access to Macquarie Wharf 6 to the RSV Nuyina for the next 30 years and have locked-in $188 million from the Australian Government to upgrade of Wharf 6, both significant achievements.

"Now we need to develop a refuelling solution that will support the Nuyina and other visiting vessels – all of which help boost our economy and support local jobs.

"The EOI process will lead into the next stages of the project, which are expected to seek specific proposals from industry in the middle of the year."
