Port Security Training For Madagascar

Malagasy port personnel have received training under the IMO Port Security Project, funded by the EU, to increase port security in the country. 

The workshop in Toamasina, Madagascar (25-29 November) saw 22 representatives from the Maritime and Port Agency (APMF) from major ports, including 14 Port State Control Officers, focus on applying control and compliance measures under IMO's SOLAS Convention, specifically Cha­­pter XI-2 on special measures to enhance maritime security. The training aims to help reduce the volume of substandard vessels calling at Malagasy ports.

The event included theoretical lessons and practical inspections on board ships at the port of Toamasina, guided by IMO experts, on how to carry out effective control and compliance measures on ships entering port.
