Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District (NBMLHD) was successful in its application to the Commonwealth Government MPS Program, and officially transitioned to an MPS on 1 June 2024.

Naomi Jensen the General Manager of Portland Tabulam Multi-Purpose Service, the change to a Multi-Purpose Service model builds a foundation for continuing to provide the high-quality care our residents have come to appreciate.

"The model has a focus on 'ageing in place' helping older people remain in their community while having access to flexible health service delivery and residential aged care," says Naomi.

With an on-site General Practitioner, viable sub-acute care, and a continued focus on prevention and community outreach programs, the MPS will provide a high level of care for communities, close to where people live.

"Using a resident-led model of care, our residents are empowered to make individual choices in how they want their days to be structured and the activities they want to engage in," says Naomi.

The 22-bed facility was officially opened in 2007 and is the only provider of aged care services in Portland.

Consultation with health care partners, volunteers, staff, and residents and their families was conducted prior to the application being made to the Commonwealth Government.

"There has been strong support from the Portland community and surrounding regions for the MPS," Naomi says.

Portland Tabulam Health Centre will now be known as Portland Tabulam Multi-Purpose Service as part of the approved application.
