The Portsmith Transfer Station and Buy Back Shop will reopen to the public tomorrow, Thursday 6 February.
There will be some changes to traffic conditions within the facility with traffic control onsite.
Operating times for the Transfer Station will be as normal – 8.30am to 5.15pm seven days a week.
The Buy Back Shop will also return to regular operating hours, Wednesday to Sunday from 9am to 4pm.
The Portsmith Transfer Station and Buy Back Shop have been closed for the past two weeks following a fire which started at the Bedminster Advanced Resource Recovery Facility (ARRF) at approximately 8pm on Thursday 23 January.
More than 35 firefighters from 11 crews responded to the fire and were able to contain the blaze that night.
The ARRF was significantly damaged, including the roof structure, which for days prevented firefighters from properly accessing some areas to fully extinguished the fire.
Late last week, demolition crews were able access the site and start clearing the damaged structures to provide firefighters with better access.
At 3pm on Saturday (1 February), the fire was fully extinguished.
Council and Veolia (the ARRF operator) would like to thank the Queensland Fire Department for their assistance and the Cairns community for their patience and understanding.
Investigations are continuing into the cause of the fire.
