Drivers collecting residential kerbside bins in the Geelong region may stop work on Wednesday and Thursday this week as their union and Cleanaway continue negotiations, causing possible delays to collection services.
When will my bins be collected?
Please put your bins out on your usual day and leave them on the nature strip until our contractor arrives to empty them, including across Saturday and Sunday.
The extent of the impacts will be dependent on how many Cleanaway drivers choose to work/strike, meaning we won't have a clear picture until the morning of collection.
I have a hard waste and/or mattress booking, will it be collected?
Hard waste and/or mattresses will still be collected, however there may be delays to pick up. Please leave the booked waste within your property boundary or approved location until collected.
I live in a multi unit dwelling. Will our bins be collected?
Yes, shared bins in multi unit dwellings will not be impacted by this industrial action. Bins will be emptied on the usual scheduled day, however the time of collection may vary.
Will the waterfront and public litter bins be collected?
Yes, the waterfront and public litter bins will be collected as per schedule and are not impacted by this industrial action.
Do I still need to pay rates if my bins aren't collected?
Bins will be collected, however collection may be delayed from the usual collection day.
Is the strike because of budget and service cuts?
No, the City is committed to ensuring that waste is collected. Our provider Cleanaway has a contractual responsibility to deliver this service.
