On May 26, President Moo Hwan Kim of Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH) and his delegation visited Tokyo Tech. The esteemed guests were received by Tokyo Tech President Kazuya Masu, Executive Vice President for Institute Strategy Isao Satoh, Vice President for International Affairs Nobuhiro Hayashi, and POSTECH alumnus Prof. Joon-wan Kim (Laboratory for Future Interdisciplinary Research of Science and Technology, Institute of Innovative Research).
Following a welcome speech by President Masu and an introduction to the university by Executive Vice President Satoh, President Kim gave an overview of the medical school that POSTECH is currently planning to establish. As both universities aim to integrate the fields of science and engineering and medicine, the parties then shared opinions on the challenges they each face, and the two presidents exchanged souvenirs.
Tokyo Tech and POSTECH signed an academic exchange agreement in 2003 and have been exchanging students and researchers ever since. This meeting was a meaningful opportunity for both universities to learn from each other as they seek to integrate different fields of research in new ways.
