The City is monitoring conditions closely over the next few days with possible heavy rainfall from today until Wednesday. Overnight, we have seen rainfall totals of around 40mm fall around the Currumbin and Tallebudgera Valleys.

The latest forecast is for an additional 45mm on Monday and up to 50mm on Tuesday and Wednesday. The Bureau of Meteorology has warned that today, the Gold Coast is also a chance of a thunderstorm, possibly severe.

This is a changing situation, depending on how the system reacts, and we ask Gold Coasters to remain informed

Heavier falls may fall in some areas, and flash flooding may result.

There is also the potential for hazardous surf conditions but at this stage our beaches remain open.

As a precaution two Gold Coast sandbag stations are open today, Monday 12 August from 6:30am. They are located at:

  • 196 Old Pacific Highway, Pimpama (next to City of Gold Coast Coomera Depot)
  • 42-44 Boyd Street, Bilinga (use the service road, next to the City of Gold Coast Tugun Depot)

Signage will be in place on site to direct moorists to the sandbagging stations.

REMEMBER:

  • Keep informed and monitor the latest from the Bureau of Meteorology.
  • Stay up to date on the City's Disaster Dashboard citygc.au/DisasterDashboard.
  • Never drive walk or ride through flood waters. If it's flooded forget it.
  • For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500.
  • In a life threatening emergency call triple zero (000)
