As Australia grapples with a sizzling start to 2024, Powerball is adding fuel to the fire by offering a groundbreaking $200 million in the upcoming Thursday draw. This record-setting jackpot is a result of no players securing a division one winning entry in last night's Powerball draw, marking the sixth consecutive week of the prize rolling over.
This $200 million Powerball jackpot is now the highest in Australian lottery history, eclipsing the previous record of $160 million set in 2022.
In last night's $150 million Powerball draw, while the division one prize remained elusive, a staggering 5,102,570 prizes totaling over $103 million were claimed in divisions two to nine. Among these, 26 lucky division two winners each claimed $110,213.60, narrowly missing out on the top prize.
The Lott operates and markets Australia’s leading lottery games.
Spokesperson James Eddy said Powerball was excited to welcome the record-breaking draw and expected Australian lottery players would be daydreaming of what could be if they bagged a slice of the division one prize.
“The new year has brought with it an incredible opportunity for Australian lottery players – the chance to change their lives and become the largest lottery winner in the history of Australian lotteries,” he said.
“It’s unfathomable what winning even just a slice of next week’s $200 million Powerball division one prize would do for you this year and for the rest of your life.
“I know I’m excited, so I can imagine Australian lottery players are rubbing their hands together at the thought of bagging $200 million and taking home the crown as the largest lottery winner in Australian history.
“To give an indication of the scale of excitement projected for the upcoming draw, the peak of sales for this week’s $150 million Powerball draw was at 6:15pm when Aussies grabbed 7,455 entries in a single minute.
“There’s of course only one way to make sure you’re in it with the chance to change your life forever, and that’s by ensuring you have an entry in Thursday’s Powerball draw.
“We’re expecting Australian lottery players to pour into lottery outlets and jump online as we approach Thursday night, with up to half of Australian adults expected to have an entry into the record-breaking draw.
“And if you want to make sure you know of your division one winning news immediately following the draw, make sure you register your entry to a player card or online account.
“Will we crown the largest individual lottery winner in Australian history on Thursday night? We can’t wait to find out!”
