Powerball Soars to $100 Million: One of Highest in Australia

The Powerball excitement is reaching new heights as the jackpot swells to an incredible $100 million for the upcoming draw on Thursday, 22 August 2024. This staggering amount ranks as the third largest prize offered in Australian lottery games this year and the sixth largest in the nation's history.

Despite four consecutive draws without a division one winner, lottery players across Australia remain hopeful. The recent Powerball draw, although not producing a top prize winner, awarded 1,603,204 prizes across divisions two to nine, totaling over $32.13 million. Notably, six lucky players in division two each scooped up $149,108.65.

With anticipation building, it's expected that up to half of Australia’s adults will purchase tickets for next week's draw, all vying for the life-changing $100 million prize.

Reflecting on Powerball's track record, Anna Hobdell, a spokesperson for The Lott, highlighted the significance of this jackpot.

"It’s been nearly three months since Powerball last offered $100 million to Australian lottery players. Last time, the jackpot escalated to $150 million, which was claimed by an Adelaide man, marking him as Australia’s biggest individual lottery winner," she shared.

The excitement isn't just about the winnings but the dreams it can fulfill.

"Many Australians are likely already envisioning how they would spend their winnings if they secured a share of Powerball’s $100 million prize. Dreams of a luxury vacation, early retirement, or purchasing the ultimate dream home could soon become a reality for the lucky winner," Hobdell added.

To ensure participation, Hobdell reminded enthusiasts that ticket sales close at 7:30 PM AEST on the day of the draw. She also stressed the importance of registering entries to a player card or online account.

"Registering your ticket ensures it is secure and also sets you up for that thrilling division one winner phone call—a call you wouldn’t want to miss," she advised.
