Construction of a revamped skate park and basketball court in Prahran is underway following extensive community consultation on the design.
The site fencing has just gone up, signalling the start of a planned eight-month build that will see the Malvern Road landmark completely redeveloped as a contemporary skate plaza with features and skating elements to challenge users of all abilities.
During consultation the skating community told us they wanted the iconic vert ramp to remain. We listened and the vert ramp is staying and will take pride of place within the upgraded skate park. We'll also be adding a new mini ramp.
The basketball court, a popular hub for locals, will also be rebuilt to a full-size court to current standards and court lighting added so play can extend into the evening.
The design of the skate park and basketball court was achieved in close consultation with local residents and the skating and basketball community, delivering the best outcome for those who use it most.
The build will also see the addition of complementary features such as shade shelters and park furniture, plus lots of trees and garden beds making it an attractive and comfortable space for everyone to enjoy.
Delivering the new skate park and basketball court is expected to take around eight months, with the bigger, better park due to open in March 2024.
