The Victorian Liberal Nationals are calling on the Premier to publicly denounce the offensive television ad launched by the Electrical Trades Union (ETU) and the construction division of the CFMMEU this week.
The ETU and the CFMMEU, in their efforts to stop the passage of theFair Work Amendment (Supporting Australia's Jobs and Economic Recovery) Bill 2020 through the Commonwealth Parliament, have clearly crossed the line.
The ad, which depicts the Prime Minister behind the wheel of a bus about to collide with a group of workers, represents a new low in Australian Politics.
Andrews must counsel his mates in these and other unions against undertaking similarly gutter advertising in future.
As stated by Shadow Minister for Industrial Relations, Nick Wakeling:
"The Commonwealth Attorney-General and Minister for Industrial Relations are correct in labelling this ad as "shameful" and insensitive to the families of road accident victims.
"These trade unions need to grow up and start acting in a manner that is actually conducive to furthering their members' interests.
"This sort of conduct by the ETU and the CFMMEU is certainly not consistent with good faith bargaining.
"Andrews, with his deep union links, must show leadership on this and I call on him to denounce this ad unequivocally."
