Premier Refuses To Appear At Ambulance Victoria Inquiry

Liberal Party Victoria

Premier Jacinta Allan has refused to appear before State Parliament's inquiry into the performance of Ambulance Victoria.

Yesterday, the Legislative Council supported a Liberals and Nationals' motion to establish an inquiry into the performance, workplace culture, and procurement practices of Ambulance Victoria.

For several years under Labor, ambulance response times have missed their targets, extensive ramping outside hospital emergency departments occurs regularly, calls have faced delays in being answered, and morale within Ambulance Victoria has plummeted while the service continues to be under-resourced.

In Question Time today when asked by the Liberals and Nationals whether the Premier would appear before the inquiry, she refused to do so. This is despite the Premier agreeing to appear before an inquiry into the CFMEU that she called.

This comes as it was revealed that just one per cent of ambulances were available for the Victorian public on Tuesday night.

Shadow Minister for Heath and Ambulance Services, Georgie Crozier, said: "In a hypocritical attempt to avoid scrutiny, the Premier clearly only wants to appear before inquiries that she has engineered and where she has hand-picked the person to conduct it.

"After a decade of financial mismanagement, there is simply no recognition from the Allan Labor Government around the seriousness of the ambulance crisis.

"Labor cannot manage money, cannot manage our health system and Victorians are paying the price."
