Premier's Reading Challenge In Full Swing

Jo Palmer, Minister for Education

The Premier's Reading Challenge is now more than halfway complete, with more than 30,000 students across Tasmania embracing the opportunity to read and explore new stories.

Premier, Jeremy Rockliff, said the Challenge is a way to encourage children to develop a love of reading.

"It's not about how many books you read, but about the joy and excitement of discovering new stories, characters, and ideas," Premier Rockliff said.

"Congratulations to all children who have joined the Challenge."

Minister for Education, Jo Palmer, said it was exciting to see 151 schools signed up for the Challenge.

"I had the pleasure of joining students at Kings Meadows High School, along with one of our Reading Champions, 7 News Tasmania Presenter Kim Millar, to talk about their progress and enthusiasm for the challenge," Minister Palmer said.

"Literacy and reading skills are the building blocks for life so we are making transformational change in our schools as part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future.

"Our Government is committed to continuing to improve educational outcomes and build the best model of education for all Tasmanian students."
