The My Energy and Water Saver kits, a joint initiative between Knox, Maroondah and Yarra Ranges Councils is a finalist in the Premier's Sustainability Awards.
The Awards recognises trailblazers who are leading the way to a sustainable future. Our joint initiative has been selected as a finalist in the Future Energy Community Champion category.
We launched the My Energy and Water Saver kits initiative in 2022 to help households save energy costs.
Initially, 3 kits were made available for loan through the Your Library network. Due to popular demand, the number of kits available has been increased to 12.
The kits help identify causes of high electricity and water usages, such as water leakages, inefficient fixtures, and usage behaviours. With this information, users can improve energy and water efficiency around the home to reduce energy costs.
Each kit consists of the following resources:
- thermal imaging camera
- power meter
- stopwatch
- thermometer
- CSIRO Home Energy Saving Handbook
- instruction guide
The kits come with a step-by-step instructional guide on how to use the various equipment to measure electricity and water usage. In the past 6 months, the kits have been borrowed a total of 72 times. Kits can be loaned at the Your Library website.
