Preston impounds

Officers from Greensborough Highway Patrol averted an almost certain disaster in Preston last night.

Members were patrolling when they observed a Holden Commodore and a Holden Calais racing each other along Bell Street near Gilbert Road about 10pm.

It is alleged both cars were overtaking other vehicles as they headed west along the road and were detected on laser travelling at 136km/h in the 60km/h zone.

The cars were intercepted and the probationary drivers and their passengers spoken to.

Both cars were impounded with towing costs of $884 for each driver.

A 19-year-old man from Coburg and a 20-year-old man, also from Coburg, are expected to be charged on summons with drive at speed dangerous, exceed speed limit, drive motor vehicle in race on highway and other offences.
