Prime Minister Dumps Environment Laws On Election Eve

Australian Greens

The Government's decision to dump its own Nature Positive laws shows the Prime Minister doesn't have what it takes to save Australia's forests or our endangered wildlife.

The Greens have vowed to make this a key election issue, urging voters to cast their ballot for nature this election.

Greens Senator and spokesperson for the Environment, Senator Sarah Hanson-Young told reporters in Canberra today:

"Dumping nature protection laws to satisfy the fossil fuel lobby, shows Labor has no integrity on the environment.

"The Prime Minister has not got what it takes to save Australia's native forests, or to protect our koala. The Greens will now take ending native forest logging to the election. We are urging people to vote for nature at the ballot box.

"It is extremely disappointing that rather than doing the right thing by nature, standing up for our great forest, protecting our koalas, the Prime Minister has again caved to the vested interests of the WA mining industry and Gina Rinehart.

"How many times do we need to see the Labor Party go weak at the knees because the fossil fuel industry and Gina Rinehart says 'boo'?

"Australians overwhelmingly support ending native forest logging. They want our forests protected. Australians know that our wildlife and our koala are on the brink of extinction and we have to stop destroying their homes.

"Voting green this election and putting the Greens in the balance of power in both houses will be a vote for our forests and a vote for our koalas. The Greens will push a Labor minority government to do what is right by protecting our wildlife and saving our forests.

"We can't keep voting for the same two parties and expecting a different result. If we want to save our beautiful forests and end native forest logging, we have to vote Green for nature this election."
