Prison Contraband Sting

Police have conducted an operation over the weekend, focusing on the introduction of contraband into the Adelaide Remand Centre and Mobilong Prison.

Between Friday 13 December and Saturday 14 December, members from the Public Protection Branch with the assistance of Traffic Support Branch, Serious and Organised Crime Branch and the Department for Correctional Services conducted an operation at the Mobilong Prison and Adelaide Remand Centre.

Incidents of note include:

  • A 44-year-old man from Port Wakefield was arrested for trafficking a controlled drug and three counts of possessing a controlled drug. He was bailed to appear in Murray Bridge Magistrates Court on 5 February 2025.
  • A 34-year-old woman from Wynn Vale was reported for possessing a controlled drug. She will be summonsed to appear in the Murray Bridge Magistrates Court at a later date.
  • A 27-year-old woman from Kensington was arrested for introducing a drug into a Correctional Institution and trafficking a controlled drug. She was bailed to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on 26 February 2025.

A total of nine expiation notices were issued in relation to traffic offences

Detective Inspector Amanda Lewis, Officer in charge of Offender Management Section says that "SAPOL and The Department for Correctional Services (DCS) have a good working relationship and will continue to work together to stop contraband being introduced into prisons.

"We run a number of operations specifically targeting visitors who think they can bring drugs into gaols. You run a strong chance of being caught if you choose to take the risk.

"These seizures today at Mobilong Prison is indicative of our commitment to support DCS and quell the supply of drugs and other contraband into prisons."
