Professors Ignjatovic, Weintraub Receive Australia Day Honors

Murdoch Children's Research Institute

Murdoch Children's Research Institute (MCRI) Professor Vera Ignjatovic and Professor Robert Weintraub have been recognised with Australia Day honours.

Professor Ignjatovic and Professor Weintraub have both received a Member of the Order of Australia (AM), an accolade that acknowledges service to a particular field, specific cultural group or local community.

Professor Ignjatovic was awarded for her work across childhood disorders as well as her dedication to promoting Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) to under-represented groups. She is Co-Group Leader of MCRI's haematology research and the scientific lead of the Harmonising Age Pathology Parameters in Kids (HAPPI Kids) study. Through this work, she is focused on discovering key protein markers in the body to investigate how age can impact blood clotting.

Professor Weintraub was celebrated for his significant service to paediatric medicine and research. He is an Honorary Fellow Manager of MCRI's Heart Research Group and a paediatric cardiologist at The Royal Children's Hospital.

Robert Weintraub

Over the course of his career, Professor Weintraub has improved our understanding of heart diseases in children spanning pulmonary hypertension, heart failure and heart transplants. He has spent more than three decades at the helm of the National Paediatric Heart Transplant Program and was awarded the 2024 Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand RT Hall Prize for research.
