Programs Target Improved Health Outcomes for Kids

  • WA Child Research Fund grants now open
  • Co-funded by State Government and Channel 7 Telethon Trust
  • Expected to boost the child and adolescent research sector by $4 million

Aimed at boosting health research to support Western Australian children, the next round of the WA Child Research Fund (WACRF) grants is now open for application.

Co-funded by Cook Government and the Channel 7 Telethon Trust, the WACRF supports studies that lead to improved child and adolescent health outcomes in Western Australia.

Since 2012, the State Government and the Telethon Trust have provided $44 million in co-funding to progress significant research in areas such as winter illness, peanut allergy, Aboriginal health, childhood cancers, mental health, and the next generation of probiotics to prevent childhood pneumonia.

It is anticipated this round of WACRF grants will deliver a $4 million boost to WA's child and adolescent research sector.

Successful applicants will be awarded up to $600,000 over a maximum of three years to support their research initiatives.

Applications close at 1:00pm on Friday 5 July, and the application form can be accessed via the Department of Health website.

As stated by Medical Research Minister Stephen Dawson:

"WA is home to some of the most innovative health and medical research programs in the world and the WA Child Research Fund is a prime example.

"This initiative continues the Cook Government's commitment to advancing child health research and supporting innovative projects to improve the wellbeing and health outcomes of children across the state.

"Nurturing local research talent is integral to the continuation of successful health and medical research in WA and this next round of WACRF grants is another important step in the right direction."
