Promenade Fence To Be Replaced

MidCoast Council

Initial steps are being taken by MidCoast Council to replace the aging Forster Main Beach promenade fence.

Council will soon be seeking requests for proposals to replace the fence and will be discussing potential designs with Councillors when they are received.

The fence is approximately 280 metres long and is estimated to be over 70 years old.

MidCoast Council's Director of Liveable Communities, Paul De Szell, said it was a matter of finding the right balance between safety and functionality.

"The Forster Main Beach is one of the most prominent and highly used beaches in the MidCoast LGA," he explained.

"So, when it comes to this fence, we want to make sure that it is safe and doesn't impact the spectacular and iconic views.

"Council has maintained the fence over the years however the harsh coastal environment has seen the fence decline to the extent that it is no longer fit for purpose."

Following further investigation into design and funding Mr De Szell said Council were hoping for the replacement fence to be complete in time for the December school holidays.
