Last week, Swan Hill Rural City Council's executive staff held a productive meeting with key state officials, including Anthony Judd, Executive Director of Loddon Mallee Hume; Helena Wretham, Chief Rail Planner; and Dale Ashby, Director of Regional Operations - Development.

Council's Acting CEO, Leah Johnston said the discussions focused on several critical initiatives aimed at enhancing the region's infrastructure and development prospects.

"Central to the meeting was Council's ongoing investment in the Murray Riverfront Precinct. We highlighted the continued rollout of key Riverfront Masterplan projects, crucial for boosting local tourism and recreational opportunities. An important topic of discussion was the development potential of the old Grain Corp site, which is being considered for future transformative projects.

"Pedestrian access to the riverfront from the CBD was identified as a significant barrier and we highlighted concepts for a railway overpass to improve connectivity and facilitate easier access for residents and visitors," Ms Johnston said.

Ms Johnston said Council also took the opportunity to emphasise two notorious intersections in Swan Hill and the need for action.

"These intersections are well known for the heavy traffic and safety issues, and we highlighted the need for urgent improvements.

"A new Swan Hill bridge was discussed as a significant priority, and we expressed our appreciation to be currently seeing some action in this space," she said.

Ms Johnston expressed optimism about the outcomes of the meeting.

"It was a promising discussion, and we are enthusiastic about having the opportunity to put the critical infrastructure needs of our community on the table. We look forward to working closely with our state officials to bring these plans to fruition," she said.
