Property Council NSW Executive Director Katie Stevenson said the high-level goals of a planned new Strategy for Tech Central resonated with recommendations outlined in the Partnering Better roadmap, launched by the Property Council last month at its inaugural Precincts Festival.
"The announcement today marks a positive step to embrace bold ideas and collaborative approaches to deliver vibrant precinct that foster innovation, housing, and economic growth," Ms Stevenson said.
"Tech Central is already home to some of the world's leading technology businesses, and with this fresh vision, it has the potential now to set a global standard for innovation precincts.
"We're encouraged by the focus on integrating housing, creative industries, and the visitor economy, the hallmarks of successful, sustainable precincts.
"As a member of the Innovation Districts Alliance we'll continue to work closely with government to inform development of its forthcoming Innovation Blueprint to realise the collective potential of all our innovation precincts," she said.
Ms Stevenson urged the Government to go further by embedding long-term reforms that can be replicated across other key precincts in NSW.
"We've been calling for government to expand the State Significant Precinct (SSP) process to include all precincts of state and regional importance, for faster approvals and greater certainty for the private sector.
"Our Roadmap outlines other planning system changes to foster innovation, long-term growth and infrastructure certainty, and stronger partnerships between the public and private sectors, along with flexible governance models that evolve alongside precincts to for long-term success.
"These measures could cement Tech Central's reputation as a world-class innovation hub and set a precedent for the next generation of precincts, including those in Parramatta, the Western Sydney Aerotropolis, and Newcastle," Ms Stevenson said.
