A 17-year-old Vincent boy and a 23-year-old Garbutt man have been charged in relation to multiple alleged break and enter and property offences in Townsville.
It will be alleged some of the offences relate to break and enter crimes at multiple of private homes and businesses, including tobacconist shops and service stations across the city between December 3, 2024, and January 30, 2025.
It will be alleged the teenager was involved in the ramming of a police vehicle in Garbutt on January 22.
It will be further alleged the teenager and man stole a Toyota Landcruiser and Toyota Hilux from a Currajong home on January 29, and the teenager allegedly used the Landcruiser to ram a police vehicle in Garbutt later that day.
The two police officers in the vehicle at the time were not injured and the police vehicle received minor damage.
The Toyota Hilux was later found burnt out in Gulliver around 11am on January 29.
The 23-year-old man has been charged with allegedly setting the vehicle on fire.
Townsville Crime Services Group Detective Inspector Jason Shepherd said officers arrested the pair at an Urqhuart Street address as part of a broader campaign targeting property crime across Townsville.
"Around 1.30pm yesterday, January 30, officers from the Townsville Tactical Crime Squad attended a Currajong residence and executed an arrest warrant, taking a 17-year-old boy and a 23-year-old man into custody.
"These arrests highlight the efforts of police to hold property offenders to account on behalf of the Townsville community," he said.
Acting Superintendent, Paul James said this was an excellent result from local officers.
"Police are absolutely committed to tackling crime from various angles including locating and arresting those serious repeat offenders who threaten to harm our community.
"These results show the dedication of Townsville police to seek justice for victims and do all we can to disrupt offending," he said.
A 17-year-old Vincent boy has been charged with 25 offences including robbery, ramming a police vehicle, unlawful use of motor vehicle and burglary.
He was also subject to 16 further offences on an arrest warrant including break and enter offences allegedly committed between December 29, 2024 and January 30, 2025.
The teenager is due to appear in Townsville Childrens Court today, January 31.
A 23-year-old Garbutt man has been charged with 32 offences including 8 counts of stealing, one count of arson, and unlawful use of motor vehicle and receiving stolen property charges.
He is due to appear in Townsville Magistrates Court today, January 31.
