Protecting Bayside's Mid-century Heritage

Council has adopted a planning scheme amendment to ensure the future protection of 50 individual and one group of mid-century modern homes across Bayside.

Amendment C192bays is being submitted to the Minister for Planning for approval to apply a Heritage Overlay on these significant properties. If approved by the Minister, the Amendment will be gazetted, and the Bayside Planning Scheme will be updated.

Bayside is home to many significant mid-century properties thanks to a concentration of innovative architects building in the years following World War II.

In 2021, we commissioned a Post-War Modern Residential Heritage Study from independent specialists to identify and document places within Bayside that should be considered for heritage protection.

Following several stages of consultation with property owners, including an independent Planning Panel to consider submissions, Council's decision to submit Amendment C192bays to the Minister of Planning for approval is an important step for the protection of Bayside's architectural heritage.
