The new Tweed Valley hospital is open for business.
Nationals Member for Tweed, Geoff Provest, secured record funding of $723 million for the hospital, which is the largest health infrastructure project ever built outside Sydney.
The new Tweed Valley Hospital provides:
- more beds
- expanded emergency department
- enhanced medical, surgical, and mental health services
- expanded outpatient services with more clinics
- new interventional cardiology service
- new radiotherapy service as part of integrated cancer care.
The former Tweed Hospital, in Powell Street Tweed Heads, closed at 8 this morning, with all services including the emergency department transferred to the new Tweed Valley Hospital at 771 Cudgen Road, Cudgen.
Residents who require urgent medical treatment can present to the new hospital, Murwillumbah District Hospital, or Byron Central Hospital.
Patients receiving care in The Tweed Hospital will be transferred to the new facility, and this process is expected to take a full day.
Temporary visitor restrictions are in place today at both The Tweed and Tweed Valley hospitals throughout the inpatient move to allow staff to focus on patient safety and wellbeing.
The new hospital will be officially opened next week.
