RAAF

Less than six weeks out of initial employment training, Aircraftman Jayden Robinson deployed to the Philippines with 1 Security Forces Squadron.

The 19-year-old from Carina Heights in Brisbane, who is part of the RAAF Gap Year Program, is posted to 1 Security Forces Squadron at RAAF Base Williamtown.

Forming part of 95 Wing of the Combat Support Group, 1 Security Forces Squadron provides security and air base support to all permanent RAAF bases in Victoria, NSW and the ACT. The Squadron also deploys to provide security and air base defence for expeditionary operations.

A detachment recently deployed to the Philippines to support 11 Squadron P-8A Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft and personnel involved in a multilateral maritime cooperative activity alongside New Zealand, Japan, the Philippines and the United States.

Aircraftman Robinson's main role on deployment was to assist with the physical security of Australian assets and equipment by patrolling the flight line and providing incident response at any time day or night.

"I'm really keen to be here and learn new things within my job role," Aircraftman Robinson said.

"Growing up, I knew I always wanted to work around aircraft. I'm excited and so happy that I am now finally doing what I wanted to do, especially so soon after joining back in February."

These last few months have given Aircraftman Robinson great insight into what Defence has to offer and the confidence to sign on full-time at the completion of his gap year, with the long-term career desire to become an Air Force dog handler.
