Provisional Drivers Speeding on Bass Highway Christmas

In a 30-minute period today, officers from Northern Road Policing Services detected two 18-year-old Provisional Licence drivers travelling at high speed on the Bass Highway.

The first driver was detected at 7.30am travelling at 160 kmh in the 110 kmh zone on the Bass Highway near Hagley. The other driver was detected at 8am travelling at 172 kmh in the 110 kmh zone on the Bass Highway near Deloraine.

Both drivers face extensive periods of licence disqualification and significant fines. One vehicle was immediately clamped and the other will be clamped in the coming days, both for a minimum of 28 days.

Driving at this speed causes danger for not only these drivers, but all road users.

This should serve as a warning for traffic offenders that police will be 'looking out' for you while we're on patrol, but it's also a reminder that these enforcement efforts are about protecting our community and that our officers are 'looking out' for the safety of all road users.

As part of Operation Safe Arrival over the Christmas and New Year period, police will have high-visibility and covert patrols on our highways and main roads, and we'll be covering other routes, back streets, and rural areas, so do the right thing on the roads to keep everyone safe.
