Public Transport Victoria (PTV) have announced major upgrade for bus services on route 546.

Passengers on the Route 546 that travels between Heidelberg Station and Melbourne University will benefit from an additional 241 services providing a 20-minute service on weekdays and services running later into the evening to better meet demand. Weekend services are also being introduced.

Council has been advocating for improvements to the route 546 bus service for many years - in particular to service areas of Fairfield and Alphington that have significant gaps in public transport.

Improving bus services in this area is a stated advocacy position in both our Advocacy Action Plan and Yarra's Transport Strategy. While Council welcomes this upgrade, there are still many other public transport improvements that are needed. These include a bus route across the Chandler Highway, increased frequency on the Hurstbridge and Mernda Lines and building Melbourne Metro 2.
