Victoria has the highest use of fossil gas for heating, hot water and cooking in Australia. Immediate action is required to rapidly electrify Victoria's residential and commercial fossil gas use to ease cost-of-living pressures on Victorian households and businesses, help alleviate fossil gas shortfalls and help achieve Victoria's emissions reduction targets, as part of the Gas Substitution Roadmap.
The RIS assesses direct impacts of electrifying residential and commercial gas appliances and explores the following regulatory options:
- Option 1: electrification of new residential and most new commercial buildings.
- Option 2: electrification of new residential and most new commercial buildings, as well as existing residential and most existing commercial buildings (excluding existing commercial kitchens).
- Option 3 (preferred): electrification of new residential and most new commercial buildings, as well as existing residential buildings (excluding existing residential cooking).
- Option 4: electrification of new and existing residential buildings only.
You are invited to share your views on the proposed electrification of Victorian residential and commercial buildings by responding to the survey questions and/or uploading a submission on the Engage Victoria website . Your answers will help DTP and DEECA assess the costs and benefits of the proposed changes. Please review the proposed regulatory options and Regulatory Impact Statement prior to providing responses.
