This year marks the 50th anniversary of Cyclone Tracy devastating Darwin, and to this day Cyclone Tracy remains one of the most significant events in the city's history.

To commemorate the anniversary, City of Darwin and the Northern Territory Government are hosting a free community event on Saturday 30 November 2024 at the Darwin Ski Club.

Lord Mayor Kon Vatskalis said the commemorative event will recognise the impact Cyclone Tracy had on the community.

"This free event is a chance to acknowledge the significant impact Cyclone Tracy had on our past, present and future," Mr Vatskalis said.

"The commemorative event provides an opportunity for the community, visitors and survivors to connect, learn and commemorate.

"It is open to the public and will also be livestreamed on the Cyclone Tracy website for those who are unable to attend in person.

"We will also have a range of services and displays available, including from the Red Cross and the Salvation Army," he said.

The commemorative event will include formalities from 9am until 10am, with a free morning tea available from 10:15am until 12pm.
