Police are appealing for public assistance to help locate those responsible for setting a trap along a popular walking track in Carindale which has harmed a dog, Queensland Police say.
Between 3pm and 4pm on Monday, September 25 a man was walking his neighbour’s dog, a Cavalier King Charles named Louis (pronounced Louie) along a well-known track on Greendale Way.
The man was heading up the track toward a water tank when Louie became caught in the trap and sustained bruising and soft tissue damage to her paw, requiring veterinary treatment.
Police believe it is possible other traps may be around the area after officers were notified of the incident this morning.
Acting Senior Sergeant Brendan Jorgensen is encouraging anyone walking around the track to be aware of further traps, particularly around the large land parcel behind the unit complex where lots of children play.
"These traps can cause serious injury and would require immediate medical attention," Acting Senior Sergeant Jorgensen said.
"Traps are extremely dangerous and can cause serious injury to animals.
"Members of the public who are caught setting mantraps can be liable to prosecution as it is a criminal offence under the Queensland Criminal Code and liable to be sentenced to three years in prison."
