The City of Stonnington will use 'Merry Christmas' wording across its 2024 festive season events, activities and decorations.
For the past two years, Stonnington's Christmas program used the term 'Make Merry'.
Council's overwhelming support for a return to 'Merry Christmas' at the 3 June Council meeting followed feedback from the community and local business associations.
Council also supported mounting the traditional Christmas wreath on Malvern Town Hall and lighting the building during the 2024 Christmas period.
"We've responded to community and business feedback to make sure that our 2024 Christmas promotions and activities in Stonnington clearly include the word 'Christmas' in them," Stonnington Mayor, Cr Joe Gianfriddo said.
"Most of the feedback received simply requested a switch back to 'Merry Christmas' - and that's what we've done. The Christmas wreath at Malvern Town Hall is a wonderful symbol of our community during the festive season, at such an important civic building.
"We absolutely embrace diversity in our city. This one was a pretty straight-forward decision for Council and I thank everyone who took the time to share their views with us."
