Publicly Displaying Prohibited Symbol Charge, Cashmere

Detectives from the Counter Terrorism Investigation Group (CTIG) have charged a 44-year-old Cashmere man following an investigation into the alleged public display of a flag featuring a prohibited symbol.

Initial investigations indicate a member of the public contacted police after noticing the flag at a Cashmere address.

Follow up investigations resulted in police executing a search warrant at the Cashmere address on Wednesday, February 5, where the flag was located and seized.

The man was not home at the time, however later presented himself to detectives at Queensland Police Service (QPS) Headquarters on February 6.

As a result of the investigation, the man has been charged with one count of publicly displaying a prohibited symbol and issued a notice to appear before Brisbane Magistrates Court on February 21.

The QPS takes all reports of behaviour which causes members of the public to feel menaced, harassed or offended, with the utmost seriousness.

Everyone in Queensland has a right to feel safe, to not feel threatened or victimised. The QPS urges anyone who feels threatened or fearful by the actions of others to contact police.

QPS remains committed to community safety and engaging with people from across our culturally diverse society to help foster relationships and build upon platforms for community engagement.
